I met Naqee on a recent visit to Chicago Illinois in June. I was on a photography workshop with Mike Boening, and our group had ventured out to Wicker Park on the first day of our workshop. From downtown Chicago we took the L-train to Wicker Park, I believe the stop was the Damen Blue line. As I walked down the stairs and headed out we poured out onto the street. This was my first time to Wicker Park and the first thing I noticed was that the energy here was great. There were lots of young and trendy people all over the place and it felt very welcoming and friendly.
As I walked out I immediately noticed Naqee. He had a small table with some jewelry and art that was setup which he was sitting at and talking with some folks. As I waited to talk with Naqee I looked at his art, and noticed how unique it was. I introduced myself and my project. I complimented Naqee on his work and also on his look. Naqee was very friendly and easy to talk to. I explained that I was visiting from the Twin Cities, MN area and that I was really loving Chicago so far and that this was my first time to the Wicker Park area. Naqee explained his artwork and that its called NFC art. He embeds an NFC chip inside the jewelry that you can program to include contact info, phone numbers, or business card/website info. If you are curious how it works you can check out this link and if you are interested in some of Naqee’s work go check out his site here.
